Cantabile

Cantabile is a choir of singers from Years 5 & 6 which first began in 1996. Membership of this choir is by audition only. Year 4 children audition to join during the Summer term. We sing a wide variety of music, very often in 2 or 3 parts. We rehearse every Monday after school, from 3.30 - 4.30pm in the school hall.

Cantabile is well-known as a music group within the local community and is often invited to sing at concerts in and around Chester. We have sung in most of the main venues in Chester - Cathedral, Town Hall, Guildhall, Northgate Arena, St. Mary's Centre, Eaton Hall and several local churches. We have performed in concerts for several national charities, notably Cancer Research UK, RNLI, British Heart Foundation, Save the Family and the Hospice.
We have sung at several weddings for teachers at Overleigh St. Mary's.

In the school year 2010-11 we were invited to sing in three concerts outside of school. The first was at the Queens School for Chester Music Society. The second was at All Saints Church with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir. Here we were also joined by Chester Schools' Concert Band. We also performed in a concert in April with the Chester Music Society's two youth choirs at All Saints Church in Hoole.

In 2011-12 we were asked to perform in 3 concerts for different groups. In February we had a hugely successful concert at St. Andrew's Handbridge URC, performed to a packed church. In March we joined Catholic High School at Eaton Hall in a concert for the RNLI and in April we sang at All Saints' Church, Hoole in a concert of music for the Queen's Jubilee, with Chester St. Cecilia Singers & other Primary schools.

In the following school year (2012-13) we sang in a concert with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir at All Saints' Church, joining forces with the choir. We then performed in a concert in school at the beginning of the summer term where we joined the choir and the orchestra to put on a concert for parents. This included the cantata "Adam-in-Eden" by Michael Hurd.

In the school year (2013-14), we sang in a concert in November with the Highfield Male Voice Choir from Runcorn and a ladies choir from the Wirral, at St Mary's Centre in Chester. This was a huge success, raising in excess of £850 for 'Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research'. We then had a concert in school in June which also involved all pupils having instrumental lessons in school. We also had advance bookings for 2 concerts for the next school year (2014-15) with the Highfield Male Voice Choir again in November and with the City of Chester Male Voice Choir in December 2014. All of these concerts were a huge success, raising money for charity

In 2015-16 we again performed with Highfield Male Voice Choir raising another £1000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. We were also invited to put on a concert in St Mary's Church in March which involved both choirs and instrumentalists. 2016-17 was a very busy year when we performed in concerts with 3 local choirs: Highfield Male Voice Choir, City of Chester Male Voice Choir and the Chester St. Cecilia Singers.

Starting our new shool year (2017-18) we are busy learning lots of new songs. The main event we are working towards at the moment is to take place in the new Storyhouse Theatre in March and is involving many of the local school. AmaSing will take place over 3 consecutive evenings.

One of the songs which has been written especially for the event is to raise awareness for the work of Macmillan. In a special workshop in November we will be joining in a choir of 1000 voices from all of the schools involved in AmaSing, at the Catholic High School, to make a recording of this song which will be used in application to Britain's Got Talent. Watch out for more news about this locally!
