P.T.A
Overleigh St Mary's PTA is very active and brings together parents, teachers and others to help create a better learning environment for your children. It provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal and also helps to forge closer links between the parents and the teachers.
The PTA can:
Raise funds to help the school provide 'extras' for pupils;
Run social events for parents and children;
Provide support for school trips, outings and other special events;
Help maintain a constant link between the school and parents.
All parents/carers of children at the school are automatically members of the Parent Teacher Association and welcome to attend the very informal meetings held in the staffroom about eight times a year to organise events.
The basic social calendar is:
Late Jan/Feb Half term disco
April Easter bingo
June Summer fair
September Welcome event for new parents
December Christmas fair
In addition we try to add two or three Cinema nights throughout the year
If you cannot make it to the meetings, there are still other ways you can help out, such as:
Adult supervision at discos or other events;
Help manning bars, stalls, barn dance, barbeques;
Help in setting up before events - then clearing up afterwards!
Helping buy/provide food, alcohol, raffle prizes, books, games or donations.
The PTA also operates a Draw Club. Members pay in £1.00 each month, usually as an annual cheque or by direct debit, and their name is entered into a monthly draw. Each month half of that month's money is paid out in the form of three cash prizes. If you haven't already joined, why not do so? An application form can be forwarded to you upon request.
So where does your money go?
Water play area for reception
Pay for pantomime on a yearly basis
Theatre trips
Digital cameras for each class
Contribution towards a trim trail in the playground
Jubilee medals
We are always looking to welcome new faces at our meetings, whether you just want to listen, voice an opinion, put forward an idea or offer to help out in some way with the events we put on.
